Week 1 · 2026

What the model says about week 1

Every FBS game on the slate, with a projected margin from opponent-adjusted ratings — and, where a line exists, how far that sits from the betting market. The same model called 69.9% of held-out games last season; every one of them is graded here.

Read these loosely. The 2026 season has not produced results yet, so the ratings behind every number on this page are carried over from 2025. Rosters turn over hard through the portal and the draft — this is the least informed the model will be all year, and it sharpens every week from here.

Where the model disagrees with the market

Not yet — and deliberately. The ratings behind this page are still built on 2025 results, so the model is reasoning about teams that no longer exist: it cannot see a transfer, a draft pick or a new coordinator, and the betting market has priced all three. Any gap between them right now would be the model's blind spot, not its opinion, and publishing it as insight would be dishonest. This turns on once the ratings are built from games played this season.

How this works

Ratings are opponent-adjusted from 2025 results and converted to a margin with a home-field term. Probabilities use a spread fitted on out-of-sample predictions, the same conversion used everywhere else on this site.

Games involving a team outside the FBS pool use the ratings engine's FCS constant rather than a real rating, and are excluded from the disagreement list — a large gap there reflects not knowing the opponent, not a genuine difference of opinion.

Lines come from ESPN's public feed and move through the week. Voluntary Takes is an independent fan site and takes no position on any wager.
