The short version: nothing is sold, there are no advertising trackers, and you can use the site without an account. If you do sign in, we store your email and the picks/scores you choose to sync. The longer version below is specific, because a vague policy is not a kind one.

What stays on your device

Display name, game scores, streaks, and puzzle progress are stored in your browser's localStorage so the site stays fast offline. Clearing site data for this domain deletes that local copy.

Poll votes and schedule picks are also kept locally, and they are sent to our database so we can show community totals. Each anonymous vote is stored against a random per-browser id with no name or email attached. That id is dedupe, not authentication — it stops accidental double-counting.

Accounts

Signing in uses a one-time magic link emailed by our auth provider (Supabase). There is no password. The email address is stored on your profile so we can operate the account and send the sign-in link itself (transactional mail).

When you are signed in, schedule picks, poll votes, and daily game scores can sync to your account so they follow you across browsers. On first sign-in from a device, we offer to attach that browser's anonymous picks and local scores to the account.

You can edit a display name, turn newsletter mail off, sign out, or delete the account from the account page. Deleting removes your profile and saved scores. Community poll and pick totals keep the underlying vote, but it is no longer linked to you.

Email and The Daily Orange

Signing in does not subscribe you to marketing mail. The Daily Orange is a separate, unchecked opt-in on the sign-in form. We store that choice and a timestamp as evidence of consent, and every newsletter send must be limited to people who opted in. You can turn it off on the account page without deleting the account.

If you also use a standalone newsletter form elsewhere on the site, that address goes to our email provider for delivery only — never sold, never rented.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, which run in your browser and report to Vercel. They record page views, page performance, and a small set of interaction events — a puzzle completed, a pick made, a poll voted, a link followed into the Data Lab.

These events never contain your email. We deliberately do not attach an email address or display name to them; they exist to tell us which pages are useful. Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies and does not build a cross-site profile of you.

Third parties your browser contacts

Team and player logos are served directly from ESPN's content network (a.espncdn.com). Loading an image means your browser requests it from ESPN, so your IP address and general request headers reach ESPN, governed by their privacy policy rather than ours.

Auth and synced data go through Supabase. Sports data, ratings and betting lines are fetched by our server, not by your browser.

News headlines link out to their original publishers. Following one takes you to a site with its own policies.

Advertising

The site currently shows no advertising and runs no ad trackers. If that changes, this page will be updated before any ad code goes live.

Children

This is a general-audience fan site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your choices

Use the site signed out and everything works. Clear site data to wipe the local copy. Sign in only if you want sync. Turn off The Daily Orange on the account page, or delete the account there. Browser settings that block analytics will not break the site.

Questions: the contact page.

Changes

When the site starts collecting something new or adds a third party your browser talks to, this page is updated at the same time. The date at the top reflects the most recent change.

Voluntary Takes is an independent fan site operated by Flame Tale LLC, 116 Agnes Rd Ste 200, Knoxville, TN 37919. It is a small independent publisher, not a company with a legal department. This page is a plain description of how the site works; it is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for a lawyer's review.
