Minnesota traded up to draft Patterson 29th overall in 2013. Over more than a decade in the NFL — with the Vikings, Raiders, Patriots, Bears, Falcons, and most recently the Pittsburgh Steelers — he became one of the most feared kick returners the league has ever seen, setting the NFL record for longest kick return (109 yards, tied for the longest possible play in football). He was released by Pittsburgh and remains an unsigned free agent.
